If you’re joints are feeling abnormally stiff and are having jaw and ear pain along with headaches chances are you are suffering from temporomandibular disorder also known as TMJ. Besides grinding your teeth, TMJ can be caused by stress, anxiety and fatigue, affecting more women than men, especially during their child bearing years and you may be seeking some TMJ relief.
As women we seem to be more conscience of how we live our lives, wanting to take more time for eating right, exercise and finding ways to relax. Given the fact that stress can be a factor for developing TMJ, women have to manage their time to be able to deal with balancing motherhood and a career. Reducing stress levels along with incorporating TMJ exercises can bring relief to women that suffer from this disorder.
The following are health tips for women to get TMJ pain relief and to stay healthy, happy and stress free.
An added plus to a women’s diet is calcium. This can be done by drinking three servings of milk daily, eating yogurt and also following up with a calcium supplement. Women lose bone density in their forties and even before that their bones tend to stop growing making a calcium reserve very important to their health. Eating fish, leafy green vegetables and other non-dairy food items that are high in calcium are another good way to boost your intake of calcium.
Studies have shown that women are required to get plenty of rest and sleep and should not spend their day sleep deprived. Stay away from certain things before going to bed such as high levels of vitamin C, caffeine and stress. To help you get a good night sleep, you may want to try some herbal tea, warm milk or a relaxing hot bath.
Along with doing TMJ exercises, find things that are relaxing and enjoyable for you if regular exercise and running seem too strenuous. A good way to get some exercise from bending and lifting is try a little gardening. To reduce stress and calm and soothe the nerves, find something relaxing such as taking care of shrubs and flowers.
