Clear Braces Orlando FL | Ceramic Clear Braces - A Clear Alternative

For the person looking to get their teeth straightened, there is a clear alternative to traditional metal braces.  Clear braces made of ceramic material and aligning trays made of clear plastic resins are now being used in many orthodontic treatment plans.

Clear ceramics offer the best treatment options for patients requiring significant bite corrections, jaw realignments or tooth extraction. They offer a less visible look but can still be adjusted enough to realign significantly misaligned teeth.

Aligning trays offer the very least visible treatment option for patients that don’t require any serious bite corrections to be dealt with.

The First Orthodontic Appointment

With clear ceramic braces, the treatment is much like the treatment one would experience with metal braces.  The orthodontist will meet with the patient, take photos and X-rays of the patient’s mouth and jaw, work out a treatment plan on a computer program, and recommend a treatment plan.

The doctor then attaches braces to each tooth with a bonding agent and attaches wires to each bracket. Then he tightens and adjusts the tension on each arch wire with rubber band ligatures or with self ligating brackets and sends the patient off with instructions to return in usually six to eight weeks.

With aligning trays like the Invisalign system, the orthodontist takes photos and x-rays, uploads the images to a computer program, works up a treatment plan with the manufacturer of the trays and orders the first set of trays to be made and shipped to the doctor’s office.

After receiving the first set of trays, the orthodontist meets with the patient, goes over the treatment plan, fits the patient with the trays and sends them on their way with instructions to return in two to four weeks.

The Second Appointment for Ceramic Braces

In the clear ceramic scenario, the second appointment consists of the doctor adjusting the ligatures or checking the progress of the self-ligating braces, makes notes on all progress, adjusts the treatment plan, and sends the patient off for another six to eight weeks.

With the Invisalign system, the second visit will consist of the orthodontist examining the progress of the alignment, checking tooth movement against the computer-generated plan, then fitting the patient with the second set of trays and sending them off for another 2 to 4 weeks.

The type of patient that would be treated with ceramic braces may have jaw surgery to be done, some teeth may need to be extracted and some severe form of malocclusions to be corrected.
The type of patient that would be treated with aligning trays would have minor bite and alignments to be made.

Obviously there are pros and cons to consider when looking at clear braces but both systems are more aesthetic and offer less of an impact to the patient’s self image and confidence than the metallic brace alternative. Clear braces represent the latest and greatest in technological advances in orthodontic science and offer exciting alternatives to the old traditional metal braces.
