Invisalign Orlando FL | Three Types of Invisible Braces that You Should Know About

There are many types of orthodontic braces that are available to consider. Some of them are un-noticeable and some are virtually invisible.  There are in fact many types of braces that could be considered “invisible”.

The Latest Technology in Clear Braces

The most invisible are in a new category of technology.  They are the new technology clear plastic resin aligning trays.  These trays work in a little different manner than traditional bracket and wire type braces.

When a patient discovers that they are a good candidate for their teeth to be straightened with a tray aligning system rather than a bracket and wire type braces system they will go through a very interesting and high tech process of treatment.

The first meeting with the orthodontist will be to take photographs and X-ray images of the patient’s teeth, mouth and jaw.  These images are then fed into a computer that maps each tooth in their current position. Then it maps out the path to its new position in a healthier and straighter smile.

Once the images are loaded into the manufacturer’s computer, they can then manufacture a set of trays that are custom designed to gradually adjust the patient’s teeth over a period of treatment time.

Treatment times will vary from patient to patient but average approximately nine months to one year.

Clear, Light and Nearly Invisible Orthodontic Treatment

A second invisible or nearly invisible treatment alternative is the family of clear ceramic braces.  These braces are made up of clear brackets made of high tech ceramic materials and clear or tooth colored wires and ligatures.  The manufacturers of clear brace systems use a high grade porcelain or ceramic material to eliminate the possibility of staining and discoloration of these wires and ligatures.

Ceramic braces work in treatment much like traditional metallic braces but they are less visible and lighter in weight.  One of the disadvantage to ceramic braces is that they are more brittle and breakable than metal braces, especially when too much tension is applied to the adjusting arch wires.  Orthodontists must use extra care upon removal and when adjustments are made to ceramic braces.
Treatment times for ceramic braces also vary from patient to patient but generally average form one year to a year and a half.

Hidden Tooth Straighteners

The third type of braces that are harder to detect are the family of lingual braces.  Lingual braces are very much like the older metallic braces but are attached to the inside of each tooth (the tongue or lingual side).  This renders the braces un-detectable to all but the most intimate inspection.

The downside to this form of treatment is that there is more time needed to getting used to, especially by the tongue since they are mounted on the inside of the teeth.  They are also a little harder to adjust and there is special training required by orthodontists to work with them. The treatment time for patients being treated with lingual braces averages from one year to a year and a half.

The age of invisibility is here and today’s orthodontic patients have many choices available to them.
